Pastor King’s Bio
Pastor King, the youngest of five sons, was born to the late Rev. Eugene E. King Sr. and Gertrude King Vance. Pastor King was reared in Media, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Nether Providence High School (now Strath Haven High School). After graduating from Nether Providence, Rev. King attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, where he earned his B.A. in Public Administration in 1981.
It was while studying at Lincoln that he met and later married the former Cynthia Whitaker. Pastor and Sister King have been married 39 years. Pastor and Sister King have six children: Taryn, Tamira, Brian II, Christopher, Aaron, and Faith. However, Chris went home to be with the Lord in 1998. Pastor and Sister King are the proud grandparents of 13 grandchildren: Brandon, Christopher, Mariah, Aryn, Imani, Makenzee, Aryanna, Amaya, Aaron, Jr., Amenah, Malachi, August, and Saint.
As a student at Lincoln University, Rev. King studied Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan R.O.C. for eight months. It was while studying in Taiwan that Rev. King received his call to the ministry. Rev. King used his Chinese skills as an interpreter and translator for the Social Security Administration.
Upon returning to the United States, Pastor King enrolled at the Philadelphia College of the Bible (now Cairn University). He later transferred to Westminster Theological Seminary, then to Tyndale Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where he earned his MBS. In December 2020, Dr. King earned his DEd Min, concentration in leadership from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY.
Rev. King began his ministry at the Friendly Baptist Church in Philadelphia, where Rev. J.N. Lavendar is pastor. Rev. Lavendar licensed Rev. King to preach the gospel in August 1982. Rev. King was ordained into the ministry by the late Rev. Paul McCoy in February 1988. Rev. King served faithfully under Rev. McCoy until his death in March of 1993. Rev. King was called to be the pastor of The Ezekiel Baptist Church on June 4th, 1993.
Rev. King has served as moderator for the Greater Philadelphia Baptist Association and is the former President of the Pennsylvania/South Jersey Baptist Convention, Board President for BRN PA/SJ, and Trustee for GuideStone Financial Resources.
Rev. King is an international conference preacher and teacher. He is a certified instructor for Building Powerful Ministry Teams and a trained Transformational Church consultant. Pastor King has taught classes on church leadership, deacons’ ministry, and discipleship. Rev. King is available for any training for the above.
